(TJ) Thomas Higgins

Hello, my professional career began over 3 decades ago. I had the fortune to land a job right out of high school as a mechanical draftsman. I went to work for a manufacturing company that specializes in hot forging, die casting, and machining. At this time I also started attending evening college courses in mechanical drafting and design. I eventually worked my way into an apprenticeship at a local tool and die shop as a mold maker and designer. It was there that I learned the art of tool design and machining. Under the tutelage of journeyman mold makers I was trained to set up and operate an assortment of toolroom mills, lathes, surface grinders, Blanchard grinders, Jig bores, gun drills, and EDM machines.

I grew up in Southeastern Michigan, car culture was a big part of my heritage and upbringing. I was third generation in my family to work in the auto industry. I was always drawn to vehicles and all things automotive, after having worked for a couple of tier one automotive suppliers, I landed a product engineering position with Ford Motor Company where I spent the majority of my engineering career. It was here that I developed a deeper technical knowledge as well as organizational and management skills. After Ford I found opportunities to work in other industries, including defense, semiconductor, and alternative energy storage.

I began to pursue my entrepreneurial aspirations in 2009 when I formed a business plan and launched Mission Design Solutions, LLC. Utilizing my background and experience I was able to leverage my love of design and passion for manufacturing to help a variety of customers with making their visions to become a reality.

Over the course of my college studies, I attended classes in design, manufacturing, and technology. In addition I attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Vehicle Engineering from Central Michigan University.
